Men's Retreat
This weekend will be our 1st and my last men's retreat! My prayer is that they will have many, many more, but since we will be returning in July, to steal a title from Michael Jackson "This is it!"
We have a good group of men, but they are lost. There has been little organization among them and few have show great potential for leading. We love them all and know God has a huge plan for their lives, but many have chosen an easier, more culturally exceptable path. You see, in Mexico, men want to have a lot of hair on their chest and strut around like some barn yard roaster who thinks he could whip any fox that comes in the hen house, you might have heard it as "Machismo". The women hold the home together in Mexico. Mom is EVERYTHING and dad "just brings home the bacon"...some times. The biggest problem with that is they often don't get involved in the lives of their family, much less in the lives of those around them like the church. In the world this results in alcohol, women (affairs) and many other sins. The men we are working with have often come to Christ so late in life that we are literally trying to teach an "old dog new tricks". And so we find ourselves out numbered and under powered with no hope for much progress...that's the human point of view any way. Omar and I believe that it is not by our power, but rather God at work in these men's lives and hearts that can change this congregation and even this city forever!
Please take a moment and pray for wisdom. This retreat is all Omar's doing and I know he's been praying about this for a long time. I truly believe this could be a great turning point in the work here in Leon. This is something we have needed for a while now, but God's timing is always perfect! Pray that He will touch the hearts of these men this weekend and that the kingdom will forever be changed!
