Class with the AIMers
On Friday's, Omar has given me the priviledge of sharing the sermon on the mount with the AIMers. They are a great group! We have enjoyed these first two classes together. Yester we talked about being a light. We noted there are two kinds of people typically. Those who are a light to the face and those who are a light to the feet. Now a light to your face in the darkness is just not cool. It blinds for a moment, but even after your eyes get use to it, it essentially is no good. This would be people who are perhaps TOO passionate (a nice way of putting it) about their faith. They never leave you alone night or day. They are always nosing around in the lives of others. Or perhaps this is the person that is constantly critical of others. No one else is ever good enough. They are the only ones that know EXACTLY what God's will is for YOU in YOUR life. Unfortunately every congregation has a couple of these and they need to be loved just like everyone else and challenged to do things God's way. The text seems to indicate that Jesus was looking for people who could be a "light to the feet". These are the people who share Jesus' love and grace with others. Not just in word, but in actions as well. They are careful to respect the feelings and beliefs of others. Their main purpose is to light a pathway to Jesus. Their example speaks for itself and others are interested in learning more about a lifestyle that could bring such joy, peace and love. The obvious conclusion is "which one am I"? Sure we all want to be on a stand and light up the room, but does it come across more "in your face" or a help to "guide your feet" to Jesus?
