"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:16

I remember years ago sitting down with a man named Lynn in my office in McAlester, Ok. Our mission was to organize an all night prayer session. I believe it was the 1st of it's kind for that congregation or at least it had been a long while since the last one. We prayed about it and encouraged each other in our ideas...Lynn was really good to me and stood up for me when I needed him! He loved to joke and some times got himself in trouble, but his heart was always in the right place service and caring for underdogs. As we looked through scripture trying to decide where God wanted us to go with this all nighter, we stumbled across Hebrews 4. When I read it to Lynn, he heard "in our time of need" and immediately stopped me. You see we had been without a preacher for a while and the congregation was getting restless. There was some griping among some of the older folks, the youth weren't happy with the "stand ins", the elders felt stress and everyone was just kinda in a general uncomfortable state.
Long story short, we utilized the above verse and God blessed that prayer night. Many people from the congregation committed to an hour, two hours, 6 hours, even as many as 9 hours to prayer and fasting at the building! I remember that night very fondly, because God's people knew that the only help was going to come from Him!
Now if you sat in a pew this morning listening to an eloquent speaker of God's word, this might not encourage you. If there is someone "in charge" of those things and you have little to do with it, you might not care much about this. BUT, if you have been without a preacher for a while or are struggling with a bad preacher with his own agendas, this just might comfort you! It might give you a moment of piece and remind you that though many things are wrong, God can make it right!!! This has not been my week for several reason, the many one being I haven't felt like doing anything, b/c I've been sick. I was reminded that God is my strengthen! He encouraged me through my mom, He gave me wisdom and grace through my wife, He revived me through Ben and his vision at such a young age, He's blessed me through my children! Satan will try to use people (not that they are Satan) to discourage you, to put you down, reject your ideas, your believes or thoughts. But God has plans for you, God loves you and believes in you and if you weren't having any problems with anyone, then you might just wonder..."Am I working for the Lord"?! Because if you are working for Him, we know from His word that Satan is nearby trying to destroy the last bit of courage and strength that you have!! Go to Him in confidence and He WILL help you in your time of need!!!
